Printing our stories – Political Poster Linocut workshop
First print try-outs, overprints on newspaper and the collective art work exhibited at the community room.
Workshops: reimagining how we live in the city
The three workshops were chosen by the young crew organising the event. Each one invited participants to rethink how we live in the city: who the space belongs to, how we move in it, and what we want it to become.
- Urban foraging with Simka: discovering the edible and healing plants of the 90mil garden and the neighbourhood, getting to know the ecosystems around us and reclaiming urban land as a shared source of knowledge.
- The Non-Fearful Body Club with Phoenix: a joyful exploration of movement and sound that breaks with learned social codes and invites participants to reclaim their bodies and their freedom of expression.
- It Takes a Village, a clay workshop with Miles: sitting together around the table, participants built in miniature the spaces we need, imagining through their fingers and in conversation the neighbourhoods, homes and communities we could thrive in.
Exhibition, food and music
Alongside the lino prints, an open call brought in works by young artists on grief, love, growth, trust and learning. The evening continued with a shared family-style meal, a performance by Lover Buffet, and a DJ set by Shaya (Trigueño) that kept people together: dancing, and continuing their conversations in our community room and out in the garden.
Learning Curve was also a first test for our young team, who organised the whole event themselves, a step towards our next big event, Tending the Gap.
Thank you to everyone who came, created and shared. Poster design: @kik.k.i.
